2022 Reunion

Whitman is a fully vaccinated campus, per Washington State guidelines. As part of this effort, only up-to-date vaccinated individuals will be allowed in campus buildings. Attendees will be asked to follow all campus COVID-19 protocols as well as all county and state mandates.

Visit to Marcus Whitman National Historic Site
328 Whitman Mission Road. Park Ranger Kate Kunkel-Patterson ’13 welcomes alumni to tour the grounds and the Great Grave, visit the museum and view a short film about the complex relationship of the Whitmans with the Cayuse people. Kate and other rangers will provide talks throughout the morning.

9:30-11 a.m. 
Classes of 1960, 1961 and 1962 Favorite Book Session. Bring a favorite book and be prepared to share why you think it is a good read. Participants will receive a list of books shared at this session. Meet in the classroom (G02) on the ground floor of Reid Campus Center.

In Memoriam for the members of the Classes of 1955, 1956 and 1957. Gather on the Reid Campus Center side lawn near the stage. In case of rain, gather in the Young Ballroom inside Reid.

In Memoriam for the members of the Class of 1965. Gather in the Amphitheater, between Maxey Hall and Stanton Street. In case of rain, this event will move to Kimball Theater in Hunter Conservatory with the classes of 1966 and 1967.

Visit the Whitman College and Northwest Archives to view materials from throughout the college’s history that will be on display. Roo Rat Society materials will be available for your perusal. Do you have materials to donate?  The Whitman College and Northwest Archives welcomes donations of materials that relate to the history of the college and the Walla Walla region.  We are especially interested in materials that shed light on student life, including diaries, correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, course-related materials, records of student organizations and activities and memoirs.  If you have such items in your possession, we would be happy to speak with you about making a permanent home for them in the college archives.  Please contact archivist, Ben Murphy, at 509-526-4731.  The archives are located on the ground level of Penrose Library.

10-11:30 a.m.
Visit the Napoleon Room in Penrose Library. In July 1972, construction began on an expanded Penrose Library. Originally built in 1957, the library needed room to grow and be updated. Perhaps the most interesting and enduring part of the 1972 expansion was the creation of the “Stuart Room”; more commonly known by many generations of Whitman students as the “Napoleon Room”.  We will take a tour of the room, interact with several items from the Elbridge H. and Evelyn Clark Stuart '28 Napoleon Cellection, and learn about the role Mr. Stuart and his family played in the development and construction of the 1972 expansion.

Reception Celebrating Craig Lesley's donation of manuscripts and personal papers to the Northwest and Whitman College Archives. Light refreshments will be served. This event will be held on the ground floor of the Penrose Library outside the Whitman College and Northwest Archives. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the Edwards Classroom, named in memory of G. Thomas Edwards, Professor of History, and Nannette W. Edwards.

4 p.m.
Professor David Schmitz, Robert Allen Skotheim Chair of History, will speak about the writing of The Transformation of Whitman College: From a Regional to a National Liberal Arts College, 1975-2015, the third volume of the history of Whitman College. David's comments will be followed by a Q&A session, plus time for him to sign your copy of the book (copies available at the bookstore). Olin Hall Auditorium.

Class of 1982 no-host Meet Up at Gard Vintners, 43 S. Main Street. Food and drink are available for purchase or grab dinner at a nearby restaurant and enjoy it with a glass of wine.

Whittie Kids. Childcare for ages 5-14 at the Glover Alston Center will be active and education-focused including games, crafts, and a movie. Pre-registration is required. No walk-ins accepted. A snack is provided. Children MUST be picked up by midnight and will be signed in and out.

7-11 p.m.
All Class Party. Join us as we take over the Reid Campus Center! Listen to hits from the 1980s through 2000s, get your picture with friends in the photo booth or head downstairs to the Coffeehouse for quiet(er) conversation-- this will be the one place you’ll be sure to meet up with your classmates. Light refreshments are provided. 21+ only. Photo ID required.

Class of 1982 Wine and Dessert Reception hosted by Sarah Bolton, Whitman’s 15th President. Join us at Reid Campus Center, 280 Boyer Ave., in the Coffeehouse on the ground floor next to the bookstore.

Parade of Classes: Led by a community band, join your classmates as we celebrate generations of Whitman Alumni on campus at the same time! Family and friends are invited to cheer the classes as they make their way across campus. Signage and students will help you find your place. Cheer on those in the classes before you as they march by. A map and instructions will be available at registration. Wear your blue and yellow proudly - or visit the bookstore for some new Whitman gear!

11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Reunion Convocation: A Celebration of Classes. The program will include the recognition of classes and reunion co-chairs, recognition of Alumni Award recipients, the presentation of reunion class gifts and remarks by Whitman's 15th President, Dr. Sarah Bolton. Cordiner Hall.

Women's Soccer vs. Pacific Lutheran University. Whitman Athletic Complex, Penrose Street next to DeSales High School.

All Class Picnic on the side lawn of Cordiner Hall, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, the picnic will be moved indoors to the Young Ballroon in Reid Campus Center. Were you an RA, SR, or Resident Director during your time at Whitman? If you would like to meet others who were in Residence Life please come by the Stanton Hall back lawn! Nancy Tavelli and Andrew Johnson '09 will be there. At the very back of Stanton, there is a fire pit and a seating area, right along Mill Creek and just a short walk around the back of the hall. Family members are welcome.

4-5 p.m.

25th Reunion Party: Class of 1997 at House of Smith, 35 S. Spokane Street. Beer and wine available for purchase. Food and two drinks are included in the dinner price. 

35th Reunion Party: Classes of 1986, 1987, 1988 at The Walls Vineyards, 1015 West Pine Street. Food and up to three drinks included in dinner price. 

40th Reunion Party: Class of 1982 at Three Rivers Winery, 5641 US-12. Wine and beer available for purchase. Shuttle service is abailable from campus. Sign up at the registration table in Reid Campus Center. Meet vans in front of Cordiner Hall Starting at 5:45 p.m.

25th Reunion After-Party at the Green featuring music by Trevor Rasmussen '98 (of Big Time Rosie fame). 1606 E. Isaacs Avenue.

All Reunion After-Party at The Eagles Club, 530 Second Avenue. Enjoy a performance by Agitated Native, featuring Rich Garcia ’82, Dana Christiansen '82, Ed Mack ’84 and Gerald Harmon. No cover charge.

Class of 1982 Brunch at the home of Dick and Ann Berner Counsell '82, 183 Coyote Ridge Drive, Walla Walla. Preregistration required. Directions: head south on S. Park Street. Take a slight right onto Howard Street. Continue 1.4 miles onto Cottonwood Road. Turn left onto Thunder Ridge Drive and right onto Coyote Ridge Drive. Drop in for bagels and fruit on your way out of town, or stay a while and enjoy a mimosa with fresh-squeezed orange juice.
