Sai's primary research interests are in the areas of economic development and gender. Her focus so far has been on investigating declining female workforce participation rates in India and the role of identity, wealth inequality and caste. She has also worked with social and economic networks and is interested in the impact of education on the formation of other-regarding preferences. She completed her doctorate at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and is passionate about innovation in economics education.
