The Health Center and Counseling Center will be closed for routine appointments while classes are not in session. However, other physical, mental health and food security resources are available to students during the break.
Mission
The mission of the Welty Student Health Center is to create an inclusive, welcoming and caring environment where all students will thrive and flourish and to meet every student with respect and dignity, accepting individuals’ unique situations and concerns.
The Welty Student Health Center staff recognizes and acknowledges the impact of limited medical services to Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and all marginalized, vulnerable populations. Our staff works one-on-one with all students to identify physical/emotional needs, provide a safe and compassionate environment and educate students regarding college and community resources.

Overview
The Welty Student Health Center is open Monday through Friday, from 8 to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 11 to 1 p.m. (The Welty Student Health Center is closed during academic breaks.) Medical providers are available daily by appointment to examine ill or injured students and provide consultations or physical exams.

The Health Center is located at 11 Merriam St. on the corner of Merriam Street and Boyer Avenue, on the southeast side of campus.

Our Nurse Practitioners and Medical Doctors are available Monday–Friday by appointment, or walk-in as time allows.
FAQs
How do I get prescriptions filled?
There are 2 pharmacies that will deliver your prescriptions to the Health Center. They are: Tallman's, a local pharmacy, and their phone # is: 509-525-1010. They will need to have a payment method on file and the prescription that you are wanting filled. Rite-Aid will also deliver to the Health Center and their phone # is: 509-529-1917.
Can I get immunization shots?
We have all the routine vaccines and many travel vaccines available. Vaccines are charged to your student account.
Questions about the Meningococcal vaccine?
What tests can you perform?
COVID 19 antigen test, PCR test, Strep, mono, urinalysis, pregnancy and STI tests are performed at the clinic.
How do I make an appointment to see a doctor?

Can my parents find out why I went to the Health Center?
We share information with parents ONLY with your written permission. Clinical information may be shared with our counseling and sport departments as needed. A consent for treatment will be provided upon your first visit to our clinic. Clinic charges are documented as “Health Center” charge on your bill from the business office. No one outside the Health Center can identify what the charge is for.
Services
Welty Student Health Center is a small, nurse-managed clinic for routine illness and injury. The Welty Student Health Center does not manage complicated or chronic conditions. If you are in need of more in depth services, please contact your current primary care physician, for an appropriate referral to a local provider.
Services available include:
- Physician availability for examination of ill students, physical exams or consultation.
- Prescriptions assistance from local pharmacy
- In-house lab testing for strep, mono, urinalysis and pregnancy
- Assistance in outside referrals and insurance questions
- Vaccines and travel health
- Sexual health exams
- Pap exams
- PrEP
- Mental Health Provider
Nursing visits may include:
- Medication administration
- Vaccine administration
- STI testing
- Ear lavage
- Plan B
What we do not Provide:
- Imaging
- Emotional Support Animal evaluation
- Management of chronic conditions

Health Insurance
The health center does not bill insurance. Students are responsible for requesting a receipt for charged services/supplies if they would like to submit a claim.
We strongly recommend that all students are aware of their benefits, including the limitations and requirements of their particular health insurance. Students in need of coverage can find insurance at Washington Health Plan Finder.
Whitman does not offer a domestic student health insurance plan. Our International Student Health Insurance Plan is an AETNA plan by Lewermark, access the login page.
