By Savannah Tranchell
More than 300 new students and their families moved into the residence halls at Whitman College on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018. The campus became a hive of activity on Wednesday as first-year students returned from the annual Scrambles trips and the local SCORE service trips.
Returning second-year students move into the newly constructed Stanton Hall on Friday. Among those assisting with moving in students and welcoming families were Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Kazi Joshua and President Kathleen Murray.
"We are thrilled to welcome the Class of 2022 to campus as they embark on their college journey," Murray said. "This is the start of four years unlike any other in a young person's life, four years full of opportunities for learning and personal development, and we are very excited to have them join the Whitman community."
The college will mark the start of the new academic year with Convocation at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, in Cordiner Hall. This year's speech is by Associate Professor Susanne Beechey of the Politics Department. Classes resume on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
