Mehrimo Bakhtalieva

“Hi there! My name is Mehrimo. I come from Pamirs, Tajikistan. I can speak four languages: Shugni, Russian, Spanish and English. I am a Geology-Physics combined major at Whitman College. I enjoy spending time outdoors, and I especially love rock climbing.

It is meaningful for me to work alongside the sustainability team at Whitman to make our campus an even greener space. The past year, I have worked on a project to raise awareness on campus in the realm of sustainability. Every other Thursday I organize a speaker series event where a student/faculty shares their work/experience/thoughts on the subject with other students on campus.

Learning about projects and initiatives on the sustainability of other people inspires me and my creativity. They often leave me thinking about how I and my community can incorporate the practices into our lives.”
