Team Dendrite
What do brain cells need to develop normally? How does an enriched environment change the brain to make an animal a better learner? These are the major questions that drive the research program of the Team Dendrite. Professors Withers and Wallace work together with Whitman students, using a combination of cell culture and behaving animal experiments to address these questions. Our work at Whitman has been supported by grants from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, generous support on behalf of Dr. Robert F. Welty, grants from Whitman's Perry and Abshire Programs, and the Whitman Internship Program (big thanks to you parents who donate to the Parent's Fund!). Before coming to Whitman, our work was supported by the NIH/NINDS and Paralyzed Veteran's Foundation. We are grateful to these agencies/foundations for giving us our start in research!
