Professor Ortiz joined the Mathematics Department at Whitman College in the Fall of 2024. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico where she also did her undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras. She recently graduated with her PhD in Mathematics from Kansas State University. Her PhD research was in graph theory and optimization, but she is also interested in machine learning, deep learning, and data science. She also is passionate about promoting diversity, equity and inclusion both in and out of the classroom.
