My Summer as a Social Media Intern at Brainrot Radio
By Lucky Eden
Hi Internship Blog! My name’s Lucky Eden, I’m an anthropology major/psychology minor graduating from Whitman in 2026. This summer I’m interning virtually at Brainrot Radio! Brainrot is a small online radio station with dozens of DJs broadcasting live from around the nation. I’m working on the social media team, mostly creating Instagram posts.
A day in my life as a Brainrot Intern starts by opening my computer to see what my boss, Jackie, would like me to work on that day. Usually the task is to create a specific graphic that Brainrot will post on our Instagram page (@brainrot.radio if you’re interested in following). I’ve made album and show reviews, posters for events, flyers inviting our followers to become DJs and more! I take some time to brainstorm before jumping into my work. I find that my first idea isn’t always my best one, so I like to create a few rough drafts before deciding which concept is right for the current project (sometimes I send a couple to Jackie to see which she prefers). Once I’ve got the concept figured out it’s just a lot of adding, taking away, and moving around. Sometimes I have to scrap everything and start over if I don’t like the way the graphic is going. But eventually, I’m finished! Almost. Before I can post the graphic, I send it to Jackie for feedback. Usually she asks for little edits (she doesn’t love the font, she thinks a different color might work better, I’ve misspelled something). I make them, and send the design back for final review. Once she’s approved the graphic, I craft a caption and post it!
In addition to my daily graphic designing, the whole Brainrot team (the three interns and two founders) meets weekly to check in, discuss projects, and plan for the following week. I also have a brief weekly one-on-one with Jackie for personal feedback. And, the whole team communicates daily with each other and the Brainrot DJs over text and Discord.
My experience so far this summer at Brainrot has been fantastic! My graphic design skills have improved substantially and I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to work at another radio station (during the school year I’m the manager of Whitman’s radio station, KWCW). I’m hoping to pursue a career somewhere in the music industry, so it’s been great to build more experience in that field. I can’t wait for my last month at Brainrot!
About the Whitman Internship Grant Program
These experiences are made possible by the Whitman Internship Grant (WIG), a competitive grant that funds students in unpaid internships at nonprofit organizations, some for-profit organizations, and governmental and public offices. We’re excited to share blog posts from students who have received summer, fall, or spring grants, and who are working at various organizations, businesses, and research labs worldwide.
