Entrepreneurship
For many alumni, a Whitman education provided an ideal background for a career as an entrepreneur. However, as much as alumni would like to repay the College, they often find it a difficult proposition. Most of their time, energy, and finances is poured into their businesses, especially in the first years of operation.
Whitman has designed the Entrepreneurship Program specifically for such alumni. Through it, alumni can make a commitment of a future contribution to Whitman College.
The program already has its first participants, a Whitman couple who have committed proceeds from a future sale of their business. In an arrangement that serves as an example for the program, they have declared that Whitman will receive 10 percent of the proceeds from any sale of their business over a minimum sale price. This commitment has a maximum value of $1 million.
