Access & Affordability
We’re making a bold pledge to meet the full financial need of all Whitman students—opening our doors wider to the most talented, motivated and deserving.
In the fall of 2023, following an exceptional gift from J. Walt and Katherine Weingart, Whitman began meeting the full financial need of all incoming Washington state students.
The Opportunity
By investing in the endowment to meet the full financial need of all students, we will make a transformative liberal arts education available to talented students from all economic backgrounds. In doing so, Whitman will join a select group of the nation’s most highly regarded colleges making the promise to meet students’ full financial need.
With additional funding, we can also build on our commitment to merit-based scholarships to help reduce financial barriers for talented students and reward those who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement or high extracurricular involvement.
Whitman has always been known as a place of community, care and collective action. Successfully completing this ambitious campaign will meaningfully transform how students live and learn and prepare for lives of success and purpose.—Nancy Serrurier, Chair of Upward Together
Upward Together: By The Numbers
In the fall of 2023, the unmet financial need of our students was more than $900,000. An additional $18 million in endowed scholarships would cover this remaining balance yearly.
