Community invited to cheer Whitman Women’s Basketball team to a Final Four victory
On-campus viewing parties planned for playoff weekend
(Walla Walla, Wash.)—On Friday, March 21, the Whitman College Women’s Basketball team will compete in its first-ever NCAA DIII Final Four at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. While the team will miss hearing the roaring cheers of last week’s home court supporters, the Lady Missionaries are inspired knowing that Whitman fans—from the college and the community—will gather to watch the team this weekend on the big screen from Whitman’s Olin Hall.
“I need to thank the Whitman and Walla Walla community for supporting our students with such passion,” said Whitman College Athletics Director Dean Snider. “It was so gratifying to see so many people supporting the team in such a positive way; this is not the case in every gym,” he continued, referring to the tremendous turnout for last week’s games. “We have an amazing community. I am humbled and exceedingly grateful.”
The Whitman College vs. Wisconsin Whitewater game starts at 5 p.m. Pacific. Community members are invited to watch the game at the on-campus viewing party with doors to Olin Hall room 130 opening at 4 p.m. Fans will enjoy free parking and admission along with complimentary refreshments including a nacho bar, water and lemonade.
The on-campus festivities continue on Saturday, should Whitman advance to the final. Saturday’s consolation game will take place at 3 p.m. Pacific, with the final at 5 p.m. Pacific.
“If Olin proves to be a bit cramped Friday, the Saturday showing may be moved to Maxey Auditorium,” said Skip Molitor, Assistant Athletic Director at Whitman College. Molitor anticipates that the 200 seats in Olin Hall will fill up quickly.
