Whitman alumna to compete in 2016 Olympic Games
There's another reason for Whitties to get excited about this year's Olympic Games. One of the first events stars Whitman alumna and professional cyclist Mara Abbott '08.
Abbott is a two-time winner of the Giro d'Italia Femminile, the most prestigious race in women's cycling. Abbott is known for her ability to climb steep terrain—a skill that could serve her well in the final miles of the Rio course.
Experts say she has a shot at a medal.
Abbott will represent team USA in the women's road race this Sunday. Read more about her in this profile from Whitman Magazine.
