Video: Senior Connects Nutrition and Learning through Community Fellowship
Race and ethnic studies major Erina Horikawa '19 is helping to enrich bodies and minds through her one-year fellowship with Walla Walla Valley Farm to School, a local nonprofit organization. The internship is part of the Student Engagement Center's Community Fellows program, which offers funding to juniors and seniors to partner with prominent Walla Walla Valley organizations addressing some of the area's social, economic and cultural challenges. In her position as the food focus events coordinator, Horikawa collaborates with members of the Walla Walla community to organize Food Focus Events, which are similar to health fairs, that provide information on healthy food and living. With the support of her supervisor Beth Thiel, Horikawa will organize six food focus events this year, hosted in elementary schools across the valley.
