Video: Whitman Teaches the Movement Brings Equity Lessons to Classrooms
In February, students from Whitman College taught lessons about civil rights, social justice and equality in classrooms across the Walla Walla community as part of the annual Whitman Teaches the Movement program. Supported by the Student Engagement Center, the student-led project works to teach K-12 students about civil rights history in the United States in an age-appropriate way. First-graders at Edison Elementary School heard a lesson about Ruby Bridges, a first-grader who was the first black student to attend an all-white school in Louisana in the 1960s.
