Greenhouse
The Biology department houses a diverse collection of live plants used for teaching and student research in a new greenhouse at the front entrance of the 2002 Science wing (right), and another greenhouse on the roof of the old wing. The collection comprises both North American and exotic species of taxonomical, ecological, and economical interest. Each greenhouse has two rooms that contain plants of desert habitats and plants of more moist environments, including a large number of tropical orchids. The plants are maintained by student employees (under the supervision of Dr. Heidi Dobson).
This greenhouse is named in honor of Biology Professor Emeritus Arthur Rempel, one of Whitman's most beloved professors who taught here for over 30 years.
