July 20, 2023: Strategic Priorities Approved!

Dear Whitman Colleagues and Students,

Greetings! I hope you are having a wonderful summer. I am writing to share a brief update on the strategic planning process that we worked on over the last year, with hundreds of members of the campus community contributing.

On June 28th, the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the Strategic Priorities, which are linked here. My tremendous thanks to all of you who took part in our planning and in bringing us to this point! The direction we have set together for Whitman’s future is exciting, and I am very proud of the ways this community has thought collectively about how we best meet our mission and provide a superb education for students in this time of such intense change. My special thanks to the members of the Strategic Priorities Steering Committee, who did wonderful and intense work throughout the year.

As we look forward to the fall, we are gathering groups to move forward toward implementation on each of the priorities. In some cases, there are existing campus committees which will take on these next steps, while for others we will convene new groups. We look forward to sharing more details about the work and ways you can be involved as we approach the opening of the new academic year.

Again, my thanks to you all for everything you do to make Whitman such an extraordinary place, now and for the future. I look forward very much to our work together in the year ahead!
