Jasmine Campbell ’15 and Holly Brooks ’04 are set to compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Whitman Magazine caught up with the athletes days before the Opening Ceremony.

Whitman students, faculty and staff as well as many community members, wandered into the Young Ballroom in the Reid Campus Center at 7 pm on Monday night to hear Dr. Kate Shuster deliver a talk entitled “Why the Movement Matters: Learning from America’s Civil Rights Struggles.”

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. and other individuals who shaped the Civil Rights Movement, the college kicked off a week of events for students and community members alike.

According to The Princeton Review, Whitman College is one of the nation’s 150 “Best Value Colleges.”

Associate Professor of History John Cotts recently received an Outstanding Academic Title from Choice, the magazine of the American Library Association, for his second book. Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Joe Page recently opened a solo exhibition of his work at Eastern Oregon University.

Alumna Dr. Stephanie Van Dyke ’99 has just been presented with the eTown E-Chievement Award. This is in recognition of the work she performs with Engeye, Inc., a non-profit that offers a health clinic and education outreach program to rural Ugandan communities.
