FORKLIFTS
Use of forklifts at Whitman College shall be conducted in accordance with WAC 296-863. Whitman-specific requirements are shown below.
- The sections of the chapter applicable to specific to forklifts as well as those applicable to all types of powered industrial trucks, regardless of type, shall apply.
- The college does not currently own or operate any other type of powered industrial truck. At such time as the College may procure some other type of powered industrial truck through purchase, rental, lease, gift or lend all other sections of the chapter shall apply.
- Only College employees may operate forklift(s) on campus or at College-owned facilities.
- Only trained employees may operate forklift(s).
- Employees shall be trained in accordance with WAC 296-863-60005 prior to first operating a forklift and shall be retrained as required at WAC 296-863-60010.
- Whitman employees who operate forklifts or other powered industrial trucks as part of their duties, teaching, or research activities outside the State of Washington shall comply with all applicable laws and rules in the jurisdiction where the work occurs. Work practices, at a minimum, shall be at least as protective as those prescribed at WAC 296-863.
