Personnel Lifts
PERSONNEL LIFTS
The use of personnel lifts at Whitman College shall be conducted in accordance with WAC 296-869. Terms, definitions and conditions specific to the College are shown below.
Definitions
- For the purpose of this program, the terms elevating work platform and personnel lift are interchangeable. They are defined as
- A device used to position personnel, along with their necessary tools and materials, at work locations. It includes a platform and an elevating assembly. It may be vehicle mounted or have an integral chassis for mobility and as a means of support. These devices include;
- Aerial lifts;
- Manually propelled elevating work platforms that have a platform that cannot be positioned completely beyond the base;
- Self-propelled elevating work platforms that have a platform that cannot be positioned completely beyond the base;
- Boom-supported elevating work platforms that have a boom-supported platform that can be positioned completely beyond the base.

Whitman Specific Requirements
- In the event a personnel lift is borrowed from a contractor, other institution or private person, the requirements for rented or leased equipment set fort at WAC 296-869-20015 shall apply.
- Any proposed modification to equipment made as allowed at WAC 296-869-20010 shall be reviewed and approved by a Professional Engineer, licensed to practice in the State of Washington. Modifications shall only be allowed after approval is granted.
