Cranial region
This photo shows the brain after we've cut it in half along the midline (midsagittal plane).
This midsagittal view of the left half of the brain reveals the diencephalon (the thalamus, labeled, is one part) and the continuity of connections between the four major brain regions.
The thalamus is a relay and processing center for information coming into the brain via the spinal cord and brain stem. It also allows reciprocal communication between the cerebrum and cerebellum.
