Water Activities
Sea Kayaking
The Outdoor Program runs multiple day and overnight sea kayaking trips to nearby flatwater rivers (Palouse River and Wallula Gap). On longer weekends and breaks we go to the San Juan Islands, WA and occasionally extended trips to Baja, MX. The OP also offers an SSRA Sea Kayak Guide Leadership class for students interested in working as professional sea kayak guides.
Whitewater Kayaking
The Outdoor Program has an active whitewater kayaking program with trips to nearby rivers and two open-pool sessions every week! We offer beginning-advanced SSRA kayaking classes and OP trips on the weekends. We also offer American Canoe Association (ACA) Instructor Training and Swiftwater Rescue Courses. Students need no prior kayaking experience to sign up for this trip and have a blast!
Open Kayak Mondays & Wednesdays 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at our campus swimming pool!
Whitewater Rafting
The Outdoor Program offers multiple whitewater rafting trips to local rivers during the semester. We go to the Deschutes, Salmon and Grande Ronde on a regular basis. We also offer an SSRA River Guide Leadership class for students interested in working as professional raft guides.
Canoeing
The Outdoor Program does occasional canoe trips and trainings. In addition, many Whitman students have attended and worked as canoe guides at camps in the Midwest and Canada.
