Whitman This Week
Weekly Monday Emails
Every Monday throughout the summer, Assistant Vice President of Student Life and Senior Associate Dean of Students Juli Dunn sends all new students helpful emails to prepare for joining us on campus in the Fall of 2024. If you happen to miss one, or would like to go back and read a previous email, we have them listed here.
Happy Monday!
It’s finally time! 🎉 You and your fellow new Whitties will be joining us on campus in just a few days!
Wednesday will be such an exciting day. I can’t wait to see you on campus! Check out my Dean Dunn happy dance ...
🚧 First off, when you first arrive on campus, you’ll notice construction on Boyer Avenue—from Main Street to Touchet Street. Please excuse the mess ... We are building a new junior-senior housing! Read how you’ll have the opportunity to be one of the first to live in it.
Free parking is available in any of our campus lots including at Harper Joy Theatre, Technology Services or Stanton Hall. Street parking can also be found in nearby neighborhoods. If you choose to park downtown, please be aware of the posted time restrictions.
🎉OK, let’s chat Move-In Day—Aug. 28!
You can check-in as early as 8 a.m. at the Reid Campus Center. (No worries if you’re coming to town in the late morning or early afternoon.) Our friendly staff will be waiting to welcome you at the Boyer Avenue entrance where you’ll start your day.
You’ll receive your Whitman ID card among a few other things. Keep your card with you at all times—you will use it for so many things around campus, including entering buildings and buying food.
Your family can wait for you at Café 66 (also known as the Reid Market) by entering through the Park Street doors. Our staff and volunteers will be there to chat with them and answer any questions they have—tell your family to look for the yellow T-shirts!💛
Hit the Express Lane:💨 To speed through the check-in process, please make sure all your summer to-dos and trainings have been completed before arriving on campus.
After you check in...
📫📦You’ll want to pick up any boxes you had mailed to yourself at our campus post office. You can also find your college mailbox and access code in the basement of the Reid Campus Center.
📚The Whitman Bookstore is next door to the post office—so feel free to stop in to pick up your books and score some awesome Whittie swag!
☕Grab an espresso at Cleveland Commons! Or check out what’s on the menu for lunch and dinner.
Need help finding your residence hall? Check out our campus map so you’ll know exactly where you’re going.
🏘️Moving into your new home ...
When residence halls open, you will need to fill out some important documents in the lobby before you receive your room keys. Due to limited space, families are asked to please wait outside while you complete this process. Once you receive your room key, they are welcome to help move your stuff in!
📦Still packing? Check out this handy guide for information on what to bring.

Hi Whittie!
The summer is flying by! You don’t want to fall behind on your tasks so let’s get to it.
You should have heard from two important people: a Summer Registration Assistant (SRA) and your Opening Week Leader (also known as your OWL). Please check your spam folder in both your Whitman and personal emails. If you don’t find their message, please let me know.
Registration opens Monday, Aug. 12 for first-year students. You can find your assigned registration time by logging into my.whitman.edu. The Registrar’s Office will be available that morning from 8–10 a.m. via Zoom to troubleshoot and answer questions.
If you are unable to register at your assigned time—due to extenuating circumstances—you should submit a Registration Assistance Form to the Registrar’s Office. A member of their office will then register on your behalf at your assigned time.
Please note: You will need to have completed all your myWhitman to-dos in order to register for classes. Get your checklist done today to avoid any registration holds!
Check these off your list:
✔️Complete your Writing Assessment by this Wednesday, July 31.
✔️Get caught up on your online safety trainings and the Race, Power and Privilege e-course.
✔️Submit your health records through the health form in your myWhitman portal by Aug. 15. The form asks for Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) immunization dates, a Tuberculosis screening and insurance info. If you submit it before Aug. 1, you will be entered into a raffle for a Whitman swag bag worth more than $75.

Hi Whittie!
An important correction to last week’s email—turns out you’ll need this special link from SpeakNow to access the Race, Power and Privilege online course. My apologies!
We’re covering the cost of the training. So make sure to use your Whitman email when registering and double check that under “purchase” it shows $0.00 due. Once you enroll, you’ll receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to access the e-course.
Now Onto Today’s Agenda ...
Can you believe it: In just over four weeks it’s Move-In Day?! I have a few move-in tips to share with you today. So be sure to read all the way to the end!

Please complete the survey before arriving on campus.
2. Need a Job?! Save the Date: Aug. 30
Our Career & Community Engagement Center (CCEC) put together this helpful guide to help you curate your resumé and cover letter. You’ll want to get started now because the CCEC is hosting a job fair just for you (the first Friday you’re on campus)!
Throughout your time at Whitman, you’ll apply on Handshake for any on campus job. Use your Whitman email to create an account and browse through job postings to find what interests you and suits your skillset. Find more job seeking resources at Whitman.

Dear Whittie,
Welcome to Whitman College! Congratulations on your college decision. I am Juli Dunn, Assistant Vice President of Student Life and Senior Associate Dean of Students.
It’s great to meet you, Whittie!
Now, you may be wondering, what’s next?
Each Monday throughout the summer, I will send you an email with important information, tips and deadlines. (Today’s email is a special Tuesday edition! 😉)
Away from your email for two weeks or more?
First Things First: 4 Simple Tasks!
Today, I’d like to encourage you to complete four simple, yet critical Whitman tasks. You’ll want to take care of these as soon as possible.
1. Activate your Whitman email account. Once activated, please check it regularly. That’s where you’ll receive your Monday emails from me, and all your student email as a Whittie.
2. Tell us how to say your name. It’s a simple thing, but we know it matters. We want to pronounce it correctly. Please use this online form to upload your recording.
3. Pick OWL 🦉 adventures. During Opening Week, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in an extended activity with our Opening Week Leaders (OWLs). Please sign into your Whitman email and let us know what activities you would enjoy most.
4. Send us your pic! Be on the lookout for an email (later this week!) about your official Whitman ID card. You’ll use your card for so many things around campus, including entering buildings and buying food.
You should always carry it with you so it needs your photo. Check your Whitman email for instructions on how to directly upload your picture to our platform. In the meantime check out these tips for taking the perfect ID card photo.
Soon, I’ll share more information about housing/roommates, advising, registering for classes and more!
Until then, if you have any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to email me.
Again, welcome to Whitman—we’re very excited about you joining us in the fall!
