Introductory greetings from Sarah Bolton, Whitman College President; John Johnson, Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion; and Elisabeth Mermann-Jozwiak, Provost and Dean of the Faculty

10:15–11:15 a.m. Getting to Know Campus

A tour of the Reid Campus Center with Juli Dunn, Senior Associate Dean of Students, followed by a full campus tour with student tour guides

11:30 a.m. Navigating the First Year: Perspectives from Newer Faculty

Discussion with faculty entering their second year

12:15–1:15 p.m. Lunch with Newer Faculty
1:15–1:45 p.m. Classroom and Campus Safety

2–3:30 p.m. Community Learning Days

Panel discussion about how the fall 2024 election affects our learning context; open to all Whitman employees

3:45–4:30 p.m. Faculty Governance and Current Events on Campus

Discussion with elected faculty leaders

4:45–6 p.m. Reception Hosted by the Committee of Division Chairs

Informal social time with faculty leaders and other colleagues supporting the academic program

Introduction to Academic Resource Center and Whitman’s CARE team

Overview of resources and services to support teaching and research
12:15–1:45 p.m. Lunch Downtown with Librarians
2–3:30 p.m. Community Learning Days

Flash talks and resource fair related to Whitman support systems for students, faculty, and staff; event open to all Whitman employees

3:45–4:45 p.m. Learning Management System: Teaching with Canvas
Registrar’s Office

Introduction to Canvas sites from David Sprunger, Director of Instructional and Learning Technology, including time to work on your own site 

5:30–7 p.m. Barbecue Dinner with Whitman’s President

Overview of path to tenure; instructions on managing professional development accounts

10–10:45 a.m. Title IX: Understanding Your Role at Whitman
Training related to being a “mandated reporter” of sex discrimination, with Cassandre Beccai, Director of Equity and Compliance / Title IX Coordinator         
10:45–11:30 a.m. Registrar’s Office
Information about managing class lists, add/drop procedures, grade reports, etc. 
11:30-12:15 p.m.     Classroom Technology Appointments
