Chinese Language and Culture House (Huá Wén Yuàn)
The Chinese House (华文苑) was originally named the Asian Studies House (ASH) and was established in 1986. The house has five bedrooms that can comfortably host an average of six to seven residents, one Resident Assistant, and a language assistant. The language assistant is a resident from China who spends the full academic year working through the Chinese department to promote and assist students in learning the Chinese language. This house focuses on Chinese traditional events; activities that take place here include Mahjong and the Chinese New Year celebration.
The Chinese House collaborates with the Chinese department and is assigned an adviser from the department. At least once a semester, the house adviser is invited over for dinner to discuss the programs that the Chinese House residents are planning for the semester. Residents of the Chinese House are responsible for completing weekly chores, having active involvement within the house and the Interest House Community, and promoting house-sponsored events and activities.
