Greek Leaders Meetings

For one hour every week during the academic semester, all four sorority presidents, all four fraternity presidents, the President of Panhellenic and the President of IFC, meet with the Sorority & Fraternity Life Advisor. Leadership training, medium-range planning, upcoming collaboration opportunities on campus and big-picture fraternal topics are discussed.

Greek Leaders Retreats

The weekend before classes begin each semester, all four sorority presidents, all four fraternity presidents, the President of Panhellenic and the President of IFC, meet with the Sorority & Fraternity Life Advisor for a full day of goal setting, leadership training, team building, calendaring and strategic planning.

Sorority & Fraternity Life Officer Summit

Focuses on five different functional areas of operation each semester. All Chapter and Council leaders with oversight in that area are invited to take a deep-dive in training for their area together. All five tracks occur simultaneously, which can allow creative ideas to germinate. The recent tracks have included:

  • Social Chairs and Risk Managers: Recognizing the warning signs of alcohol overconsumption and how to take action.
  • New Member Educators: The importance of a high quality, intentionally crafted new member program, with an emphasis on how to train Big Brothers/Sisters to be mentors.
  • Standards/Judicial Board Chairs: Holding members accountable through the lens of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • House Managers: How to clean bathrooms and kitchens, the tools needed to do the job well and how the college can help organizations access the right products.
  • Recruitment and Public Relations Chairs: How to effectively tell the story of Sorority and Fraternity Life, how to build relationships with non-members and how to help classmates who haven’t yet joined to understand the invaluable opportunities membership holds.
  • Alumni/ae Relations Chairs: Collaborating with the Whitman College Alumni Relations Office on messaging, communications ideas, thanking donors, how to keep Chapters’ alumni/ae abreast of news and projects, and how to involve them in your Chapter’s activities.
  • Philanthropy/Community Service Chairs: Service learning projects, support from the Career & Community Engagement Center, the true needs of the Walla Walla community, how/why to track community service hours, and the immense value of giving back.
  • Ritual Chairs: Vocal warm-ups, how to prepare for ceremonies, enunciate with conviction, and how to communicate potentially archaic language to today’s audiences.

Community-wide Risk Management Education

Every semester we have an unforgettable presentation for the entire SFL community, organized by Panhellenic and IFC, occasionally in collaboration with other organizations.

Recent examples include the Bonny Shade keynote presentation of "Just Another Assault : A Conversation To End Sexual Violence" and a screening of the film HAZE followed by a facilitated conversation about the importance of intervention and recognition of warning signs.

Other Meetings

At the twice-monthly IFC Delegates Meetings, Sorority & Fraternity Life Advisor Stace Sievert shares Greek News From Around the Nation, highlighting the good, the bad and the ugly, prompting discussion at Whitman’s campus to learn from those around us.

All sorority/fraternity Chapter Presidents meet one-on-one monthly with Stace for leadership coaching and organizational management tips. Topics include relationship building with headquarters, advisors and other campus Chapters, connection to Whitman resources, supervisory skill building overseeing the executive officers, and any administrative tasks connected to organizational recognition by the college.

All Council Executive officers meet one-on-one with Stace every couple of weeks to plan the execution of the larger community goals. Topics include governing document revision, large event planning, budgeting/finances, social media content and recruitment.
